Toyota
It's no secret that the words durability, reliability, well designed
vehicles and excellent performance have been associated with Toyota
since the company first began producing automobiles. Although the Toyota
product line typically sells for more than its counterparts, it has
long been documented that these costs are offset for those who wish
to own a vehicle for many years. Just ask any Toyota owner!
Founded in 1935 as the Toyota Motor Corporation by Kiichiro Toyoda,
the company , after many years or product research, launched its first
product offering named the A1. Expanding its product line in the early
1940's to even include a pickup, Toyota reached a major milestone, despite
wartime setbacks, of producing 100,000 vehicles by the time the decade
came to a close.
During the 1950's, Toyota expanded its market presence with the introduction
of many new and innovative small car models. It was also during this
time that it introduced the BJ truck, a utilitarian model which was
the forerunner to the popular Toyota Land Cruiser. Riding their wave
of success, Toyota started to market vehicles in the United States with
the formation of Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A Inc. The first model introduced
, in fact the first Japanese car to be sold on American soil, was the
Toyota Crown..
During the 1960's, the company experienced growth that was nothing short
of record breaking. Each model that was introduced seemed to become
successful almost overnight. Witness the debut the Toyota Corolla during
this time which is still in production today! Other models during this
time included the 2000GT, the Miniace and the Hiace. As the decade drew
to a close, sales figures showed Toyota having reached a milestone of
selling over 1 million vehicles domestically while also matching this
figure in total exports.
The 1970's was a time when Toyota products seemed to outshine its competitors
at every turn. With the onset of the fuel crisis, the companies fuel
efficient models became more popular than ever. During this decade,
Toyota also launched the Corona and the Mk models along with its first
sports coupe, the Celica. Domestically, Toyota continued its domination
of the Japanese market with new models such as the Carina, the Publica
Starlet and the Light Ace, all of which experienced successful sales.
Closing out the decade with over 10 million vehicles exported, the company
looked forward to even more success in the coming years.
If there ever was a shining moment in a company's history, you could
say the 1980's were just that for Toyota. This was the time that the
company introduced the now legendary Toyota Camry sedan. As you well
know, this model has won the prestigious title of America's best selling
car so many times it's hard to keep count. This was also a time in which
Toyota introduced even more popular models such as the MR2 sports sedan
and the well received 4Runner SUV.
With the onset of the 1990's, Toyota expanded its product line with
the introduction of the Avalon, its first full sized sedan It also added
more SUVs to its lineup with the introduction of the highly popular
RAV4. As the 90's were drawing to a close, and the world demanding more
eco friendly vehicles, Toyota rolled out the first
new
hybrid car
in Japan in 1997. Wildly successful overseas, the Prius made
its American debut in 2001 with robust sales soon to follow. As usual,
even with many competitors clamoring for the buying publics attention,
the Prius continues to to set the sales pace that only the others can
envy.
Toyota now boasts a fairly extensive lineup of vehicles including minivans,
SUVs, truck, and cars that takes a backseat to no one. With its long
history of producing a quality product , Toyota has cemented itself
in the consumers mind of being the company to turn to when value and
dependability are a must.
