BMW Cars

BMW, or Bavarian Motor Works, is a German-based company that is widely recognized for its superb automobile workmanship. BMW is very well known for its luxury cars and SUVs, and most noted is the level of driving enjoyment that is experienced with their various models.

The BMW company began in Munich, Germany, in the early 1910s, and original was an aircraft manufacturer. The company's logo reflects its origins, and it's design was meant to represent white propeller blades of an airplane against the clear blue sky; the pattern of blue and white also gives reference to the Bavarian flag.

The first production of a BMW automobile began is 1928. This model was called the Dixi. Despite being it's first car, the Dixi was very popular and the success it brought helped the company to get through the Depression. The Type 328 roadster was the best known pre-World War II vehicle of BMW; this car was a two-seater, and it happened to win more than 120 victories within the motorsport circuit during the years of 1936 to 1940. This tradition was maintained by postwar BMW vehicles, and they won several rallying, racing, and hill climbing victories.

During the early 1950s came the launch of the BMW 501, and this was a spacious sedan that boasted of all the hope within that era. Soon followed the 502, which happened to be the world's first light-alloy V8 powered car, and this set the trend for BMW's ongoing commitment to a development of new technology. The Isetta was BMW's best-selling car of that decade; it was a “microcar,” or small two-seater, and was powered by a 12- or 13- horsepower engine. During the mid 1950s, BMW released a limited production 507 model. It was a beautiful sports car with an alloy body and for propulsion, it used the 502's V8. Throughout the 1960s, the sales of the company strengthened greatly, and this was partially due to it's release of the 1500 model, the company's first sporty family sedan.

Well into the 1970s, BMW was gaining the reputation of a full-fledged car company. The company pioneered several emerging technologies, including that of advanced vehicle electronics and turbocharging. During this same period, BMW had become established within the North American market, and many consumers adopted the status of being a loyal "Bimmer" owner. The 1970s also saw the release of the company's three-tier sport sedan range. It included the 3 Series, 5 Series, and 7 Series cars, and shortly after came the creation of BMW's performance M division.

During the latter half of the 1990s, BMW opened it's first U.S. manufacturing plant, and has since expanded to include the famous Mini and Rolls-Royce. Even since the start of its motorcycle production in the 1920s, BMW still continues to build them.

The famous slogan of BMW describes the vehicles that the company makes as "the ultimate driving machine," and many have found it to be somewhat of an understatement. BMW continues to set trends in performance and luxury, although, the vehicles are priced in the "over $30,000 buyer segments." Nevertheless, the BMW model roster is quite diverse, with it's most popular model being the 3-Series. Amongst all of its vehicles, you can be assured that they embody the character of BMW in that they have the ability to make the drivers feel a glorious connection with the road.
